Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic is generating approximately $3 billion in annualized revenue, marking a significant increase from previous metrics. The company’s revenue surge is attributed to selling AI models as a service, with a focus on code generation. Anthropic is experiencing rapid growth, positioning itself as a leading SaaS vendor.

In comparison, competitor OpenAI is projected to reach over $12 billion in total revenue by the end of 2025. OpenAI’s revenue largely comes from consumer subscriptions to its ChatGPT chatbot, while Anthropic’s revenue is more evenly split between enterprise and consumer offerings. Anthropic’s Claude chatbot has seen less consumer adoption than OpenAI’s offerings.

Anthropic, founded by a team that split from OpenAI, recently closed a $3.5 billion fundraising round, valuing the company at $61.4 billion. In contrast, OpenAI is currently valued at $300 billion.
