Bayer seeks Roundup settlement, explores Monsanto bankruptcy, WSJ reports

Bayer is working on a plan to settle mass lawsuits over Roundup weedkiller in Missouri, considering bankruptcy for Monsanto if unsuccessful. The company has paid $10 billion to settle claims linking Roundup to cancer, with 67,000 cases pending and $5.9 billion set aside for legal provisions.
Advisers from Latham & Watkins and AlixPartners are examining options for Bayer, including a possible Chapter 11 filing for Monsanto. Reuters could not confirm the report, and Bayer, Latham & Watkins, and AlixPartners did not comment immediately.
Bayer recently petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to limit claims connecting Roundup to cancer to avoid extensive damages. A decision could come next month. The company acquired Roundup through the purchase of Monsanto in 2018, facing glyphosate litigations and other challenges since.
