Case-Shiller Home Prices Increase But Not by Much

Pre-market futures are up this morning, recovering from Friday’s losses, after President Trump postponed additional tariffs on the EU until July 9th. The Dow is up +530 points, S&P 500 +80, and Nasdaq +320. Uncertainty over tariffs continues to impact the market, with bond yields slightly cooling.

Durable Goods Orders in April show mixed results due to volatile nature and tariff uncertainty. Headline orders down -6.3%, better than expected -7.8%. Business capital spending (ex-transportation) at -1.3%, weakest since 2022. Shipments down -0.1%. Uncertainty in international trade remains a factor.

Case-Shiller Home Prices for March show a 20-city index up +4.1% and 10-city up +4.8%, slightly weaker than previous month. Urban markets outperform rural. Prices expected to slow in the coming years despite current elevation.

Consumer Confidence for May expected to remain at Covid-era levels of +86.0. Earnings reports from Box and Okta today, followed by Macy’s, NVIDIA, Salesforce, Costco, and Best Buy later this week. Market uncertainty impacting both business investment and consumer spending.

Zacks identifies a top semiconductor stock with significant growth potential compared to NVIDIA. Strong earnings growth and expanding customer base position it well for the demand in AI, ML, and IoT. Semiconductor market expected to grow to $803 billion by 2028.
