Casella Waste Systems, Inc. opened its newly renovated materials recovery facility in Willimantic, Connecticut, with state-of-the-art equipment aimed at driving efficient recycling. The facility upgrade is expected to double the processing capacity to 120,000 tons of recyclables annually. The event included a donation to the UConn Office of Sustainability for a graduate fellowship. Casella has invested nearly $20 million in upgrades, including a new sorting system, power infrastructure, and enhanced fire suppression. They also partnered with Eversource to enhance electrical efficiency. These investments align with Casella’s goal of advancing the circular economy and sustainability.
