Continental Resources, based in Oklahoma City, is suing Hess Corp for allegedly manipulating agreements and overcharging midstream fees, resulting in up to $69 million in losses for partners. The lawsuit targets Hess Midstream LP, in which Hess Corp holds a 38% stake.
Hess Midstream LP provides midstream services to Hess and third-party customers in the U.S. The lawsuit claims that Hess structured contracts to benefit midstream operations at the expense of upstream assets, impacting partner companies like Continental Resources.
Continental Resources, a non-operating interest owner in wells operated by Hess in North Dakota, alleges it has suffered financial losses due to inflated service fees. The excessive midstream charges have reduced Continental’s net hydrocarbon revenues, estimated to be between $34 million and $69 million.
Hess Corp has not publicly responded to the allegations, while Continental declined to comment on the ongoing litigation. The lawsuit highlights the complex relationships and financial implications in the oil and gas industry, emphasizing the importance of fair and transparent business practices.
