Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) is facing allegations from Culper Research for misleading investors about its eVTOL aircraft, Midnight, with inaccurate development updates. The research firm took a short position on the stock, claiming the company’s promotion of near-term commercialization is premature and reckless.

Culper Research detailed events leading to the short position, citing Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) claiming its Midnight aircraft was fully assembled and finishing ground tests on February 27, 2025. However, emails revealed the flight test team didn’t have the aircraft until early March, questioning the company’s progress.

The research firm also accused Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) of faking a milestone to secure additional financing from Stellantis, criticizing the slow progress in FAA certification. Despite potential, Culper Research believes other AI stocks offer higher returns with limited downside risk compared to ACHR.
