CVS Health is expanding access to the weight loss drug Wegovy for patients covered by its pharmacy benefit manager, Caremark. Caremark will prioritize Wegovy on its formularies starting July 1, making it the preferred GLP-1 drug for obesity. Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Wegovy, is working to boost access to the drug in partnership with Caremark. Caremark will make Wegovy available at a more affordable price for its members. Additionally, uninsured patients can purchase Wegovy for $499 at CVS pharmacies nationwide. CVS is the first retail pharmacy to partner with Novo Nordisk’s direct-to-consumer online pharmacy, NovoCare, to dispense Wegovy to patients. NovoCare offers Wegovy at a lower price point for cash-paying patients. Caremark will also provide additional lifestyle support, such as personalized nutrition plans, as part of the CVS Weight Management program. Novo Nordisk aims to connect more patients with authentic, FDA-approved Wegovy in a convenient and affordable way.
