DoorDash to buy Deliveroo for $3.8bn

US-based food delivery firm DoorDash has agreed to acquire UK rival Deliveroo for £2.9bn ($3.8bn). Deliveroo operates in multiple countries and works with thousands of restaurants and riders to provide on-demand delivery. The deal will offer Deliveroo shareholders a 44% premium on their shares, totaling £2.4bn in enterprise value.
Deliveroo’s revenue in 2024 was £2bn with earnings of £140m. The acquisition terms offer a 29% increase over the closing price on 24 April 2025 and a 40% premium on the three-month average price. The enlarged group will have a global presence in over 40 countries, serving 50 million monthly active users.
DoorDash CEO Tony Xu stated that the deal will combine DoorDash’s operational strengths with Deliveroo’s local expertise to enhance innovation and execution. DoorDash operates in more than 30 countries, partnering with over 500,000 local businesses. The company serves more than 42 million monthly active users.
DoorDash and Deliveroo plan to create the leading global platform for local commerce. The companies together generated a total gross order value of $90bn in 2024. DoorDash recently rolled out a successful robot delivery service in Los Angeles and Chicago after testing in Helsinki. The acquisition marks a transformative new chapter for both firms.
