Autonomous freight company Einride undergoes leadership shuffle, with founder Robert Falck moving to executive chairman and CFO Roozbeh Charll becoming CEO. The company is considering a U.S. IPO. Einride, founded in Sweden in 2016, focuses on electric and autonomous vehicle solutions and operates heavy-duty electric trucks globally.
Einride has raised $654.26 million in funding, with plans for more to scale its electric autonomous trucks. The company needs an additional $100 million to reach profitability. The move to an IPO in the U.S. aligns with favorable AV regulations. Many AV makers reference European regulations for safety cases.
In China, 100 5G autonomous electric mining trucks collaborate to tackle harsh environments with temperatures as low as minus 40 F/C. These trucks can haul 90 metric tons with a 568 kWh battery and no driver’s cabin. Huawei powers the trucks with its 5G-Advanced network for quick reaction times and data processing.
China’s reliance on coal leads to the deployment of autonomous mining trucks in Inner Mongolia, where 344 trucks operate across 43 open-pit coal mines. This advancement in autonomous mining trucks could lead to developments in Class 8 tractors. The trucks provide an opportunity to automate coal production in the region.
Einride founder Robert Falck steps down as CEO, transitioning to executive chairman to focus on long-term company strategy. The move follows a decade of building the company. The leadership pivot aims to position Einride for an IPO and continued growth in the electric and autonomous freight industry.
