Elon Musk’s Tesla holds $1.25 billion in Bitcoin. The holdings surged by $1.2 billion due to Bitcoin’s price increase, with Tesla revealing 11,509 Bitcoin worth $1.05 billion on its balance sheet. Tesla had invested $1.5 billion for 43,200 Bitcoin in February 2021 and planned to accept Bitcoin as payment.
Tesla sold 10% of its Bitcoin holdings, generating $272 million, then sold almost 75% of its remaining Bitcoin worth $936 million in Q2 2022, leaving 9,720 BTC. Musk stated the decision was due to the firm’s need for cash, not Bitcoin’s performance. Tesla’s Q1 2025 revenue fell short of expectations at $19.34 billion.
Musk announced he would spend more time at Tesla and less at the Department of Government Efficiency, where he was appointed head by President Trump.
