Italian energy giant Eni has started gas production from the Merakes East field in the Kutei basin, offshore Indonesia. Eni holds an 85% operating interest in the field, expected to contribute up to 100 mscf/d of gas to Eni’s production figures. The field is connected to the Jangkrik FPU for processing and transportation to meet domestic demand and supply the Bontang LNG plant. Eni aims to enhance local content and secure additional gas volumes for the domestic market, aligning with its broader strategy in Indonesia. Eni is also in talks with Petronas to form a joint venture overseeing selected upstream assets in Indonesia and Malaysia, consolidating reserves and exploration potential.
