The U.S. Federal Reserve’s incoming vice chair for supervision is reviewing confidential ratings for the country’s biggest banks, per the Wall Street Journal. Adjustments to the ratings may raise concerns among bank examiners. The Fed has not released new ratings for banks with over $100 billion in assets. Michelle Bowman, nominated by President Trump, is set to take on the role. She aims for a lighter regulatory touch and has criticized the Biden administration’s stricter rules on the financial sector. Only a third of the largest U.S. banks received satisfactory ratings in all criteria last year, sparking criticism. The Fed uses ratings to assess banks’ financial health and risk management based on capital, liquidity, and governance. Bowman is expected to change the calculation of next year’s bank scores.
