Crypto entrepreneurs and families in France are receiving enhanced security measures to combat a recent surge in crypto-related kidnappings. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau introduced measures such as priority access to police lines, home security assessments, and safety briefings for law enforcement. Retailleau met with local crypto industry leaders following recent kidnapping incidents.

In a recent incident, the daughter and grandson of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat were targeted by assailants in a kidnapping attempt. The attack was thwarted when the daughter managed to disarm one of the assailants. This incident is part of a series of crypto-related kidnapping incidents in France this year.

Paris police recently freed the father of a crypto entrepreneur who was held in connection with a 7 million euros kidnapping plot. In January, the co-founder of Ledger, David Balland, was abducted from his home in central France. Retailleau believes the incidents are likely connected, with over 150 crypto-related robbery or kidnapping incidents since 2014.

According to a GitHub database maintained by Jameson Lopp, there have been 23 crypto-related kidnapping incidents in 2025 alone. Lopp warns against peer-to-peer trades, flaunting wealth on social media, and wearing crypto-branded clothing as these behaviors can make individuals targets for criminals. Stay vigilant and practice caution in the crypto industry.
