Warner Bros. Discovery is rebranding its streaming platform from Max back to HBO Max this summer to focus on quality programming and storytelling. The company aims to reach over 150 million subscribers by 2026 and has seen profitability grow by $3 billion over two years. Competing with Netflix, the company emphasizes quality over quantity with the return to the HBO Max name. HBO Max was initially introduced in 2019 for global streaming ambitions, but now emphasizes quality content. Other legacy media companies like Disney are also focusing on quality content to win in streaming. Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming business has evolved since launching HBO Max in 2020 under AT&T ownership, then merging with Discovery Communications and WarnerMedia. Now, the company is returning to the HBO Max brand to showcase its commitment to high-quality programming.
