HII reported first quarter fiscal 2025 results, with revenues at $2.7 billion, net earnings of $149 million, and new contract awards totaling $2.1 billion, resulting in a backlog of $48 billion. Operating income increased to $161 million with a margin of 5.9%, driven by improved segment results compared to the previous year.

Segment operating income for Ingalls Shipbuilding was $46 million, with a margin of 7.2%, due to lower volumes in amphibious assault ships. Newport News Shipbuilding saw revenues of $1.4 billion, a decrease of $38 million, primarily due to lower volumes in aircraft carriers. Mission Technologies reported revenues of $735 million, with a segment operating income of $40 million and a margin of 5.4%.

Key milestones included the launch of the guided missile destroyer Jeremiah Denton and the christening of the amphibious transport dock Harrisburg. HII reaffirmed its financial outlook for fiscal year 2025, expecting shipbuilding revenue between $8.9 and $9.1 billion, with operating margins between 5.5% and 6.5%.

Free cash flow for the quarter was negative $462 million, compared to negative $274 million in the first quarter of 2024. Mission Technologies reported an EBITDA of $67 million, with a margin of 9.1%.
