An Italian court has imposed judicial administration on Valentino Bags Lab, a subsidiary of Valentino, for alleged worker exploitation. The company outsourced manufacturing to Chinese-owned firms in Italy that exploited workers. Valentino must now comply with court requirements, including supply chain monitoring. The company aims to collaborate with authorities for resolution.
Despite prior reports of exploitation, Valentino Bags Lab continued working with non-compliant suppliers. Investigations found workers without contracts, undocumented immigrants, and unsafe working conditions. Bags Milano, a contractor, produced bags for Valentino at low costs, sold for high prices. Prosecutors are investigating subcontractors for illegal practices.
The Milan court’s actions against Valentino Bags Lab are part of a trend targeting companies for labor violations. Previous cases included LVMH’s Dior, Armani, and Alviero Martini. The court’s oversight aims to address worker exploitation and ensure compliance with labor laws. Valentino’s stakeholder Kering has not commented on the situation.
