Japan is considering reducing the issuance of super-long bonds to address rising yields, calming market concerns about government finances. The Ministry of Finance will potentially cut super-long bond issuance for the current fiscal year after discussions with market participants in mid- to late-June. The move comes as super-long bond yields hit record levels due to decreased demand and global debt worries. The yen and U.S. Treasury yields fell in response. Japan’s total planned JGB issuance for the year will remain unchanged at 172.3 trillion yen. The BOJ is unlikely to make major changes to its bond-taper program despite market turbulence.
