Maruha Nichiro snaps up majority stake in Van der Lee Seafish

Seafood Connection, a Dutch subsidiary of Japan’s Maruha Nichiro, has acquired a 70% stake in Van der Lee Seafish for €40m. The deal includes shares in King Fish Selection. Seafood Connection aims to expand its product range and sales network for frozen seafood in the European market.

Van der Lee Seafish, based in Urk, generated net sales of Y11.56bn and a profit per share of Y54,101. Maruha Nichiro, a major fish company, announced plans to change its trade name to Umios Corp. The company reported a 1% increase in net revenue to Y1.03tn.

Seafood Connection is headquartered in Urk and operates in ten countries. CEO Jan Kaptijn emphasizes M&A as a key strategy for growth. Maruha Nichiro’s recent acquisition of a majority stake in Van der Lee Seafish aligns with its goal to expand in the European market.
