McDonald’s announced the closure of CosMc’s, a new restaurant format tested in the U.S. But drinks inspired by CosMc’s will be tested at U.S. McDonald’s locations, including unique options like matcha iced lattes and prickly pear-flavored slushies.

In late 2023, McDonald’s aimed to test a small-format store with customizable drinks to attract afternoon snackers. Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski expressed interest in tapping into the $100 billion snack category. McDonald’s sales lag in the afternoon, prompting the need for innovation.

Despite positive feedback, McDonald’s will close all remaining CosMc’s locations by the end of June. The company cites operational challenges with the complex drinks. CosMc’s allowed McDonald’s to experiment with flavors, technology, and menu adjustments based on customer input.
