Mercedes plans to ramp up SUV production at its Alabama plant by adding the GLC for the North American market, strengthening its US presence. The German automaker’s Alabama facility currently manufactures various SUV models, and the GLC’s production shift from Bremen will enhance the plant’s capabilities. Investment details for the new line remain undisclosed.
Financially, Mercedes-Benz Group experienced a 7.4% decrease in revenue for Q1 2025, dropping to €33.22bn from €35.87bn the previous year. Negative net pricing effects, lower unit sales, and reduced component business with Beijing Benz Automotive contributed to this decline. Net profit also fell by 42.8% to €1.731bn compared to Q1 2024.
The decision to localize production of the GLC segment in Alabama by 2027 aligns with Mercedes’ strategy to bolster the site, marking three decades of operation. The company aims to strengthen its foothold in North America and maintain production levels in Bremen for global demand. This move showcases Mercedes’ commitment to the region.
