Israel’s NSO Group was fined $168 million for hacking WhatsApp servers to spy on users for foreign governments. NSO charged European clients $7 million to hack 15 devices at a time, with an additional $1-2 million to hack phones outside the client’s country. The CIA and FBI paid NSO $7.6 million. NSO continued targeting WhatsApp even during the lawsuit.
