Microsoft is aiming for an “agentic web” where AI agents can seamlessly work together, with CTO Kevin Scott emphasizing open standards and improved memory. They propose using the Model Context Protocol to enable agents to collaborate like web services. This shared memory will enhance user experience by allowing agents to remember past interactions and provide proactive suggestions.
At the Build 2025 conference, Microsoft plans to introduce unified SDKs and toolkits supporting the Model Context Protocol for easier integration of multi-vendor AI workflows. They will also offer memory-management libraries with encryption for user data protection. Microsoft’s strong financial position, with a AA+ corporate rating and over $130 billion in cash, enables heavy investment in open-source standards and R&D, dedicating 18% of revenue to innovation.
