Acting US Attorney John Durham has left as Trump’s appointee Joseph Nocella takes over EDNY. Nocella will serve for 120 days or until a confirmed nominee is in place, coinciding with the start of the trial for former SafeMoon CEO Karony. The trial, set for May 6, involves securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering charges.

Karony, along with Nagy and Smith, faces accusations of misappropriating millions of dollars in SafeMoon tokens between 2021 and 2022. Karony has pleaded not guilty and will go to trial under Magistrate Judge James Cho, overseen by District Judge Eric Komitee starting on May 6. The case could be impacted by Nocella’s appointment by Trump.
