NJCPA proposes new route for CPA licensure in New Jersey

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) is proposing an alternative route for CPA licensure in the state. Bill A5598 would allow candidates to qualify with a bachelor’s degree, two years of experience, and passing the CPA Exam. The NJBOA supports this initiative.

This new pathway aims to address the shortage of accounting talent in NJ, with 66% of businesses facing difficulties in sourcing such professionals. NJCPA CEO Aiysha Johnson emphasizes the importance of keeping the CPA profession accessible to young professionals while maintaining rigorous educational standards.

Assemblyman Sterley Stanley introduced bill A5598, which has advanced in the licensure process for CPAs in NJ. The proposed legislation allows for an alternative pathway for candidates to become licensed CPAs while still upholding current requirements. The bill also includes provisions for out-of-state CPAs.
