NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) plans to release a new AI chipset for China despite U.S. export restrictions, with production starting next month. Priced between $6,500 and $8,000, it is part of the Blackwell-architecture AI processors, featuring weaker specs using GDDR7 memory and lacking TSMC’s CoWoS packaging tech.

China, accounting for 13% of NVIDIA’s sales last year, is a key market. This move marks the third time NVIDIA has tailored a GPU for China due to U.S. restrictions. After the U.S. banned the H20 chip in April, plans for a downgraded version did not materialize, leading to the development of the new Blackwell AI chip for China.

NVIDIA is also planning to launch another Blackwell AI chip for China in September. The company’s market share in China has declined since 2022, following U.S. export restrictions, prompting more customers to turn to Huawei’s chips. Despite the potential of NVDA as an investment, some AI stocks may offer higher returns with limited downside risk.
