Two NYPD officers, Roberto Cordero and Raymond J. Low, are on modified duties after being linked to a crypto trader’s alleged kidnapping and torture in a Soho townhouse. Cordero picked up the victim from the airport, while Low provided security. Both are under investigation. One was off-duty, and the other was paid by a suspect for security services. The suspects, John Woeltz and William Duplessie, face charges of kidnapping and torturing the victim to reveal his crypto wallet phrase. The victim, Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan, escaped from the townhouse after being held captive for 17 days. Woeltz is known as the “crypto king” of Kentucky, and Duplessie is a co-founder of Pangea Blockchain Fund. Woeltz has been indicted, while Duplessie awaits his indictment. Cordero has had four civilian complaints, including two for abuse of authority, while Low has had nine complaints filed against him, including allegations of excessive force.
