PayPal to introduce contactless mobile wallet in Germany

PayPal is launching a contactless mobile wallet for in-store payments in Germany accessible through their app on iOS and Android, allowing payments at outlets accepting Mastercard contactless. The app will provide a unified view of online and offline transactions, along with a new Pay Later service for in-store purchases with financing options. Customers can also activate cashback offers for contactless payments at retail locations.

PayPal’s Germany, Austria & Switzerland managing director, Joerg Kablitz, believes their app offers innovative alternatives to cash, providing ease and safety in payments. The company’s biggest investment in product development in Germany includes nationwide launch in the coming weeks. PayPal reported a net income of $1.29bn for the first quarter of 2025, a 45% increase from the previous year.
