Hong Kong-based fintech firm RedotPay has launched cryptocurrency-enabled payment cards in South Korea, challenging traditional credit card firms and mobile payment services. The cards support major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether, as well as stablecoins such as USDC and USDt, allowing users to load their cards with crypto assets from various blockchains. Users can receive a virtual card for $10 or a physical card for $100 with minimal verification requirements. The cards are currently available to Korean users, offering a user-friendly experience with real-time stablecoin payment and refund systems. RedotPay’s compatibility with Apple Pay in Seoul could give it an advantage in the market. South Korea has seen a surge in crypto adoption, with over 16 million people reportedly holding crypto, making it a key issue in the upcoming presidential race. South Korea’s political parties have made promises regarding crypto-friendly measures, such as approving spot crypto ETFs and establishing a regulatory framework for stablecoins.
