The leader of the Reform UK political party, Nigel Farage, announced that the group is now accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency contributions from eligible donors. This makes Reform UK the first major European political party to do so, standing out among the Conservative and Labour parties in the UK.

Farage spoke at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, discussing his experiences with being debanked in the UK in 2023. He also outlined Reform’s plans to introduce a “Cryptoassets and Digital Finance Bill” if the party gains control of government in the upcoming UK general election expected before August 2029.

Among Farage’s proposed policies are establishing a Bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England and opposing the introduction of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the UK. He also expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s crypto policies, emphasizing the growing number of people in Britain with crypto assets.

In a related move, the UK’s Labour government in May proposed rules positioning the country as a “safe harbor” for innovation like crypto assets. This framework would regulate crypto exchanges, dealers, and agents similarly to traditional financial firms in the UK.
