Samsung to buy German cooling system maker FlaktGroup for $1.7 billion

Samsung Electronics announced the acquisition of Germany’s FlaktGroup for 1.5 billion euros to meet the demand for cooling data centers for AI projects. This is Samsung’s biggest acquisition in eight years. The deal is expected to close within the year, focusing on consumer electronics and home appliances rather than chips. Analysts believe it’s a safe move for Samsung. The stock inched up 0.7% after the announcement. Samsung has been shying away from major acquisitions since 2017, focusing on consumer audio, cooling/heating systems, medical, and robotics. Last year, it became the largest shareholder of South Korea’s Rainbow Robotics and formed a joint venture with Lennox in HVAC. Samsung had bid for Johnson Controls International HVAC assets but lost to Robert Bosch.
