Saudi Arabia and Kuwait’s Wafra Joint Operations made an oil discovery in the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field, 5km north of the existing Wafra field, yielding over 500 bpd of crude oil with an API gravity of 26-27 degrees, the first discovery since mid-2020 after production operations resumed in the Partitioned Zone. This significant find is expected to enhance E&P capabilities and potentially add 500,000 bpd to the market from the neutral zone agreed upon by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in 2019. The neutral zone includes the Wafra and Khafji oilfields, both of which resumed production in 2020. This discovery follows Aramco’s recent announcement of 14 new oil and natural gas fields and reservoirs, enhancing Saudi Arabia’s energy capacity to meet domestic and global demands. Kuwait also announced a substantial oil and gas discovery at the Al Nokhatha field in July last year, estimating 2.1 bbbl of light oil and 5.1 trillion standard cubic feet of gas.
