Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund-owned aircraft leasing firm, AviLease, has ordered up to 30 Boeing 737 MAX jets, with a firm purchase of 20 737-8 jets and an option for 10 more. The Riyadh-based company manages 200 aircraft and leases to 48 airlines worldwide. Boeing’s stock rose over 2% amid the news and recent trade war de-escalation.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg is part of a group of corporate leaders joining U.S. President Donald Trump on a Middle East tour, starting with Saudi Arabia. The White House announced a $600 billion Saudi investment in the U.S., including a defense sales agreement valued at nearly $142 billion. Boeing is also looking to involve Saudi Arabia in the F-15EX fighter jet supply chain.
Boeing delivered 45 commercial jets in April, double the number from last year, including two for Chinese airlines. This marks an increase from March deliveries and comes as the company’s stock has risen 10% over the past four sessions. Saudi Arabia’s investment in Boeing and the U.S. is part of broader efforts to secure investments during Trump’s Middle East visit.
