SEC Files to Dismiss Long-Running Lawsuit Against Binance

The U.S. SEC dropped its lawsuit against Binance without explanation, as the case was paused for the SEC’s new crypto task force to develop a regulatory framework. Lawmakers introduced a bill defining oversight of digital assets by the SEC and CFTC. Binance wants the case dismissed with prejudice to prevent future lawsuits.

Judge allowed most of the SEC’s case against Binance to proceed, but now the SEC has dropped its charges against Binance.US. Binance.US is pleased with the dismissal and looks forward to focusing on growth while maintaining compliance. The SEC has dropped over a dozen other investigations and lawsuits in 2025.

The SEC’s reversal on the Binance lawsuit coincided with new leadership appointments, including Commissioner Mark Uyeda as acting chair. Binance recently announced listing USD1, a stablecoin linked to Trump. SEC Commissioner Peirce warned crypto investors not to expect government protection for speculative assets.
