Computer scientist Ben Goertzel, a pioneer in decentralized AI, predicts the launch of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in 1-3 years. His project, SingularityNET, has partnerships with Mind Network and Filecoin Foundation, invested $53 million in decentralized AGI, and completed a token merger with Ocean Protocol and Fetch.ai. Goertzel founded the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance in 2024.

Goertzel emphasizes the importance of decentralization in AI, tracing his belief back to the early days of the internet. He sees decentralization as crucial in safeguarding against monopolization and misuse of AGI technology. SingularityNET, Hyperon, and the upcoming ASI Chain are designed with decentralization in mind to benefit humanity and prevent concentrated power.

Goertzel explored decentralized money in the 90s but found it impractical due to slow and expensive transaction times. Decades later, Bitcoin emerged as a successful implementation of decentralized money. Despite initial skepticism, Goertzel acknowledges the potential and challenges of decentralized currencies like Bitcoin, reflecting on missed opportunities in the early days of cryptocurrency.
