Italian auto executive Antonio Filosa has been named as the new CEO of Stellantis, the world’s fourth-largest carmaker, replacing Carlos Tavares. Filosa, currently COO for the Americas, will take over on June 23 and is expected to announce his leadership team. The move brings leadership back to Italian hands after three years under Tavares.

John Elkann, chairman of Stellantis, praised Filosa’s deep understanding of the company and industry. The board’s choice of Filosa was unanimous, citing his leadership track record and knowledge of the business. Filosa joined Fiat in 1999 and has held various positions in Latin America, helping boost market share for multiple brands.

Filosa’s promotion to COO of the Americas in 2024 was part of an executive shakeup as sales slumped in North America. Stellantis has been struggling globally in the shift to electric powertrains and facing tough competition in China. Analysts also note under-performers within Stellantis’ 14 brands, like Maserati and Chrysler.
