Tesla CFO sells $3.1 million in stock, compensations package over $139 million

Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja sold another $1 million in common stock, making it his third sale this month, totaling $3.1 million in shares sold in May, as per Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

Taneja’s compensation package reached over $139 million, mainly consisting of an equity grant of approximately $113 million in stock options and about $26 million in stock awards, following his appointment as CFO in 2023.

Tesla’s CFO, Vaibhav Taneja, has been the only named executive to receive an equity award for 2024, with his compensation remaining unchanged since taking on the finance role.

Tesla’s stock rose by 47% in the last 30 days, amidst consumer backlash related to Musk’s political activities, tariff uncertainty, and growing competition in key markets like China.

Elon Musk announced plans to reduce political spending and continue as Tesla’s CEO for the next five years, reassuring investors amidst ongoing setbacks and challenges faced by the company.

Tesla reported a 71% decline in net profit for its latest quarter, attributed to rising costs and tariff concerns in markets like China, where sales have been declining.

Longtime Chipotle executive Jack Hartung will be joining Tesla’s board and its audit committee, effective June 1, following his retirement from Chipotle where he served as CFO until late last year.
