35-year-old Matthew Labrot was fired by Tesla for creating a website criticizing CEO Elon Musk. Labrot, in a management role, set up “Tesla Employees Against Elon” and called for Musk’s replacement. He cited doubts about Musk’s integrity due to his acquisition of Twitter and support for Trump’s campaign.
Labrot claimed that Musk’s political views impacted Tesla sales, with customers abandoning the brand. Labrot alleged that Tesla leadership failed to guide employees on handling protests and vandalism against the company. He spray-painted his Cybertruck with anti-Musk messages and continued to attend Tesla protests after being fired.
Tesla, facing a challenging quarter, experienced a 71% YoY profit decline and declining sales in the U.S. and Europe. Despite efforts to appeal to a broader audience with affordable models and marketing strategies, Tesla’s inventory is increasing, with over 10,000 unsold Cybertrucks in the U.S. Musk announced a reduction in his DOGE commitments to focus on the company.
