Thailand plans to allow tourists to spend cryptocurrency via credit card-linked platforms to modernize its financial system. The initiative, under review by the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Thailand, will enable tourists to make local purchases using crypto, with merchants receiving Thai baht. Capital markets regulation and financial law reform are also on the agenda, aiming to unify treatment of traditional and digital assets. Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira supports digital assets, emphasizing clear rules for innovation without risking financial stability. The Ministry of Finance announced plans to issue $150 million worth of digital investment tokens for retail investors to buy government bonds. Thai SEC approved Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC for cryptocurrency trades, allowing them on regulated exchanges.
