Trimble Inc. reported a 25% year-over-year decrease in first-quarter transportation and logistics revenue, totaling $146 million. Despite the freight recession, the segment saw 7% growth in annual recurring revenue. Trimble’s transportation growth was driven by Maps and Transporeon units, with revenue split between Europe, North America, and rest of the world.
The Westminster-based company’s total first-quarter revenue was down 11.8% year-over-year at $840.6 million. Trimble beat Wall Street revenue and EPS expectations. Second-quarter guidance projects revenue of $815 million to $845 million and EPS of 59 cents to 65 cents. Full-year earnings are expected to be $2.76 to $2.98 per share.
Trimble CEO Rob Painter anticipates double-digit growth in the Transporeon unit for the rest of the year, noting a shift in demand away from automotive transport to retail and consumer products. The company recently closed the sale of its transportation telematics business units to Platform Science, retaining a 32.5% stake in the expanded business.
With the divestiture, Trimble’s transportation and logistics segment now generates over 90% recurring revenue. CFO Phil Sawarynski highlighted the connect-and-scale strategy, targeting $400 million in cross-sell opportunities within the segment. Sawarynski also addressed a potential $10 million quarterly tariff impact in the field systems segment, which focuses on construction software and hardware.
