U.S. Consumer Prices Inch Up In Line With Estimates In April

Consumer prices in the U.S. rose by 0.1 percent in April, as reported by the Commerce Department. The annual growth rate of the PCE price index slowed to 2.1 percent from 2.3 percent in March. Excluding food and energy, the core PCE price index also increased by 0.1 percent. The annual growth rate for the core index slowed to 2.5 percent in April. The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation readings were part of the report on personal income and spending, which showed income rising by 0.8 percent and spending increasing by 0.2 percent in April.
