Labour government is embracing the Mansion House Accord, a Conservative initiative, to increase public investment in private markets and UK infrastructure via pension schemes. Seventeen workplace pension providers have signed the compact, committing to allocate at least 10% of defined contribution default funds to private markets by 2030.

The UK financial industry is showing interest in opening private markets to retail investors. Morningstar highlighted the convergence of public and private markets at a recent investment conference. The government aims to boost UK infrastructure investments and improve pension returns through the accord, signed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, expected to channel £25 billion into private and UK assets by 2030.

Industry figures have expressed varying views on the accord. Dan Kemp from Morningstar emphasized the importance of balancing the commitment to British industry with investor interests. Aviva CEO Amanda Blanc sees the accord as an opportunity to support UK growth and improve pension outcomes. Gresham House CEO Tony Dalwood stressed the need to focus on enabling capital investment in smaller projects to drive growth and support sustainability initiatives. 1.
