The UK used car market saw over two million sales in Q1 2024, exceeding pre-pandemic levels, with 2,020,990 vehicles changing hands, a 2.7% increase from last year. Petrol cars led sales, but hybrids and BEVs surged, with BEVs capturing a record 3.3% share. The SMMT emphasizes the importance of EV incentives for long-term success.

Smaller cars like superminis were popular, comprising 32.4% of transactions, followed by small family and dual-purpose models. Specialist sports, executive, upper medium, and MPV segments saw declines. Black remained the top car color, with grey and blue following. SMMT CEO Mike Hawes highlights the strong start to the year and the increasing popularity of EVs in the used car market.
