The U.S. and the UAE have a preliminary agreement to import 500,000 of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips per year starting in 2025. The deal is set to run through at least 2027 with a chance of extension until 2030, benefiting the UAE’s data center development for AI models.

The draft deal allocates 20% of the chips to UAE’s G42 and the rest to U.S. companies like Microsoft and Oracle. However, the agreement is still being negotiated and may face opposition in the U.S. government.

The Biden administration imposed restrictions on AI chip exports to prevent them from being diverted to China. Trump announced deals with Gulf countries to buy chips from Nvidia, AMD, and Qualcomm, aiming to improve ties with the region.

With the potential UAE deal, the region could become a significant player in the global AI competition. The U.S. Commerce Department, White House, G42, and UAE had no immediate comments, while Nvidia declined to comment.

The agreement also includes promoting data centers in the U.S., requiring G42 to build a similar facility in the U.S. for each one built in the UAE. A working group will determine the definition of advanced AI chips and security requirements.

The chips in the deal are expected to be Nvidia’s most advanced GPUs, potentially Blackwell or Rubin chips, surpassing previous generations in power. Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala, UAE ruling family, and U.S. private equity firm Silver Lake have stakes in G42.
