The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index, which tracks used vehicle prices, rose 4.9% last month to its highest level since October 2023. This increase is much higher than the typical month-to-month rise of 0.2%. The rise is attributed to consumer fears of price hikes due to auto tariffs, impacting both new and used vehicle markets. Retail prices for used vehicles have not fallen as quickly as wholesale prices in recent years, with the average listing price now over $25,000. Despite being off record highs seen during the pandemic, the Manheim index remains relatively high compared to pre-pandemic levels. Cox Automotive reports that used vehicle prices are stabilizing after years of volatility.
