WeRide Launches Fully Driverless Robotaxi Trial Operations In Abu Dhabi

WeRide Inc. has launched fully driverless Robotaxi trial operations in Abu Dhabi, the first of its kind in the Middle East. The fleet will operate on public roads without safety drivers starting this quarter. Commercial driverless rides and expanded service areas are planned to begin in summer 2025. WeRide is expanding its Robotaxi service to include Al Maryah Island and Al Reem Island in addition to existing routes on Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and Zayed International Airport. The company also plays a role in shaping Abu Dhabi’s autonomous mobility infrastructure and regulations. WeRide recently partnered with Uber to launch a ride-hailing service in Abu Dhabi, making it the largest commercial Robotaxi service outside the US and China. WeRide stock closed at $8.76 on Thursday, a 7.20% decrease on the Nasdaq, but traded 1.03% higher in after-market hours before ending at $8.85.
