Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, warned regulators about an impending crack in the bond market, predicting panic. Treasury prices are under pressure, with yields rising in May, the largest monthly jump this year. Despite concerns, successful Treasury auctions have helped maintain calm in the sector.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is working with banking regulators to potentially lower 10-year Treasury yields. The Federal Reserve and Treasury have tools to manage stress points. Investors remain anxious about the GOP’s tax bill impact on deficits and Treasury issuance. Concerns about tariffs and foreign asset allocation have also raised worries.
Despite market turbulence, Dimon remains confident and not panicked. JPMorgan shares fell slightly on Friday but are up 10.1% for the year. The S&P 500 is up 0.5% for the year, while the Dow is down 0.6% and the Nasdaq Composite is down 1%.
