Access Bank has completed the acquisition of National Bank of Kenya (NBK) from KCB Group, becoming its sole owner. The deal, signed in March 2024, allows NBK and Access Bank Kenya to operate independently during the integration process. This move is part of Access Bank’s strategy to expand in East Africa.
KCB Group CEO Paul Russ sees the deal as a significant milestone in delivering value to shareholders. With the legal aspects settled, the banks will focus on transitioning smoothly. Customers can continue to use their current banking channels with either NBK or Access Bank Kenya, as the banks work towards functioning as one entity.
Access Bank managing director Roosevelt Ogbonna views the acquisition as a key step in leveraging East Africa’s financial potential. By having NBK in its portfolio, Access Bank aims to offer impactful banking solutions to individuals, businesses, and government institutions in Kenya and beyond. This move is expected to enhance the bank’s presence and services in the region.
