Alaska Airlines to make Europe debut with Rome flights next year
From CNBC: 2025-06-03 09:07:00
Alaska Airlines is expanding its routes to Europe, starting with nonstop service to Rome from Seattle next year. The new route is made possible by the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines and its long-haul jets. Flights are set to begin in May using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets, with plans to add more international destinations from Seattle.
Alaska Airlines aims to become a global player, responding to Mileage Plan members’ requests for Rome service from Seattle. Italy remains a popular destination, prompting competitors like Delta and United to increase service. Alaska recently launched flights to Tokyo and plans to start service to Seoul, expecting a boost in cargo revenue.
Federal Aviation Administration approval is needed for Alaska Airlines to operate the new routes with a combined fleet from Hawaiian Airlines. The airline expects approval in the fourth quarter, allowing for seamless operation of the expanded international routes.
