Alaska Airlines is expanding its routes to Europe, starting with nonstop service to Rome from Seattle next year. Alaska Airlines aims to become a global player, responding to Mileage Plan members’ requests for Rome service from Seattle. Italy remains a popular destination, prompting competitors like Delta and United to increase service. Alaska recently launched flights to Tokyo and plans to start service to Seoul, expecting a boost in cargo revenue.

Federal Aviation Administration approval is needed for Alaska Airlines to operate the new routes with a combined fleet from Hawaiian Airlines. The airline expects approval in the fourth quarter, allowing for seamless operation of the expanded international routes.
