Tech company Amazon has secured a 1,920 MW nuclear energy deal with Talen Energy to power its web servers and AI data centers in Pennsylvania until 2042. The energy will come from the Susquehanna nuclear facility and be supplied through the grid, supported by PPL Electric Utilities. Global nuclear energy capacity projections until 2050 are available from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
In a similar move, Microsoft signed a 20-year deal with Constellation Energy Corporation to reopen the Three-Mile Island nuclear site and deliver 835 MW of nuclear power to its AI data centers by 2028. Meta also recently agreed to purchase 1.1 GW of nuclear power over 20 years from Constellation to power its AI facilities. US lawmakers and President Trump support the shift to nuclear energy for AI and high-performance computing applications.
