Ascension CEO Joseph Impicciche announced his retirement at the end of the year after two decades of service. President Eduardo Conrado will succeed him on Jan. 1, 2026. Impicciche oversaw the system’s growth to 94 hospitals and a $3.9 billion acquisition of ambulatory surgery provider Amsurg.
Impicciche also founded the Ascension Foundation, providing $2.1 billion in care in fiscal year 2024. He navigated challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, a cyberattack, and industry-wide issues. New CEO Conrado helped stabilize finances and expand digital tools like the Ascension One app for patient care management.
Despite progress, Ascension reported a $101.2 million operating loss in the third quarter of 2025 after a $1.1 billion net loss in 2024. The health system faced financial challenges due to the cyberattack fallout and economic volatility, aiming to recover with Conrado’s leadership.
